Above and Beyond – South United’s Top Success Stories

Since our inception, we have had several players join our Soccer Schools and Football Club. While every player who has been a part of our football coaching in Bangalore has been unique and talented in their own way, we take a look at some of the key success stories at South United:

Amoes Thiruvathanadhan – Former Midfielder

South United has been known for developing raw talent and providing youngsters with a chance to flourish. We have churned out quality players in the past few years, Amoes T. being one of them.

Amoes joined South United in 2012 and was the top goal scorer in the BDFA league that year. He was also awarded the ‘Man of the Tournament’ Title in the Kedari Redekar Football Tournament, in which South United emerged victorious. He was even selected to play for the Karnataka State Team in the Santosh Trophy.

Having developed his talents at South United over a period of 2 years, he then went on to play with I-League teams, Bengaluru FC and Mumbai FC and ISL Team, Delhi Dynamos.

Vignesh Gunashekhar – Former Midfielder

Another integral player in the team was Vignesh Gunashekhar. Vignesh was the opening goal scorer for South United in the Bangalore Super Division in our first season. He also went on to set up the second goal for the team in the same match, giving South United its first victory in the League.

After honing his skills at South United, he went on to play for ISL Team, Delhi Dynamos, and has represented Karnataka in the Santosh Trophy on more than three occasions.

Kabir Toufik – Former Goalkeeper

Kabir Toufik was scouted while playing a tournament in Bangalore, joined SUFC at the age of 16, and has come a long way since then. He has represented the Karnataka State U-16 team in the year 2011-12 and the U-19 team in the year 2013-14.

While he was with SUFC, Kabir was given the ‘Best Goalkeeper’ Award in three of the major tournaments he participated in with the Club and was even chosen for the BDFA XI First Team and the Karnataka Santosh Trophy Team. Given his growth and progress at SUFC, he was called up to trial for the Under 22 National Team.

He was then scouted from South United and went on to play for the Chennai City FC I-League Team as a part of the winning squad.

Sudipta Malakar, Former Left Winger

Sudipta initially played for the DSK Shivajians U-18 team and Patha Chakra and joined South United from Delhi Dynamos at the age of 18.

He has played for SUFC in the I-League 2nd Division as well as in the BDFA Super Division. At SUFC, he was given the opportunity to train under licensed Indian and International coaches and compete in matches against ISL Clubs. He was also selected for the Santosh Trophy to represent West Bengal twice during his time at the club.

Given his excellent and improved performances, he caught the eye of several clubs, most notably FC Goa, which he then joined on loan. The strong foundation laid by SUFC, of both training and exposure, enabled him to further his dreams and join a team outside the country. In 2021, he signed for the Maldivian side – LT Sports Club and is the first player from South United Football Club to join an international team.
