Established in 2012, South United Football Club is the first privately owned Football Club in Bangalore. SUFC has participated in the BDFA Super Division, I-League 2nd Division, the Gadhinglaj United Cup as well as the Puttaiah Memorial Cup.
The purpose of the South United Football Club Academy is to identify and develop talented young footballers. The Academy aims to help students progress through the different phases of the programme, moving upwards to the SUFC First Team squad, local and national youth teams, and teams that play in Senior Leagues, nationally and internationally.
Phelan started his career as part of the Leeds United youth system and made 19 appearances for Leeds in the 1985–86 season. He then spent a year at Swansea City, earning a move to top division Wimbledon a year later.
In his first season at Wimbledon, Phelan was a member of the team that won the FA Cup with a shock win over Liverpool in the final. He also helped Wimbledon finish seventh in the league on two occasions during his time there.
After five years at Wimbledon, in which he made 198 appearances, Phelan was transferred to Manchester City for £2.5 million, equalling the British record transfer fee for a defender as well as equalling the club's record fee. At City, Phelan made 122 appearances over three and a half seasons.

Coach Terry and Surya Prakash along with other coaches are great with the kids , they bring out the best in the girls/boys and are great trainers. Both my kids have been coming to South United, they have been having a ball of a time, and are really enjoying themselves here. The day I walked into this place to check the facility out, I was really impressed by the safety measures they were taking. The facility is incredible. I don’t think there is any other facility like this anywhere in Bangalore for sure. I have not come across such a phenomenal coaching class anywhere else, even for myself as a kid. I would very highly recommend this place to anyone who is interested in sending their kids.
I have two 10-year-old boys. They have attended the South United Camp, which was absolutely fantastic. The pitch and turf are fantastic, and the coaching staff is also brilliant. My boys love it. It has been such a positive thing for them and me too. It has been more about getting the kids out, running around, and playing in a great environment where there is top-class coaching. I have been extremely happy, and everyone is really friendly here.
My son, Aman, has always been passionate about football, and in a country like India, where football has always taken a little side-step, it was difficult for me to find a place for him where he can exercise his love and passion for football. After joining the classes, my son came back happy, and that was all that mattered to me. He was happy at home. He enjoys his game and looks forward to coming here. This is one of those cases where I find joy in my son’s eyes.
Both my sons come and play here and are very happy. They are going to continue here till this is here. Overall, it is an amazing initiative by the management. The best part about this is that it is such a huge place within the city limits. The whole management, including the team, the coaches, the ground, the infrastructure, everything is amazing.
