South United has always been heavily invested in developing talent for Indian Football. This has been made possible through its ecosystem which includes the Club, the Soccer Schools, and the Academy. Through its history, South United has time and again proven its ability to develop raw talent and provide youngsters with a chance to flourish.
One such example is Amoes Thiruvathanadhan, a former midfielder at South United. Amoes joined South United in 2012 and was the top goal scorer in the BDFA league that year. He was also awarded the ‘Man of the Tournament’ Title in the Kedari Redekar Football Tournament in which South United emerged victorious. Having developed his talents at South United over a period of 2 years, he then went on to play with I League team Bengaluru FC and Mumbai FC and ISL Team, Delhi Dynamos.
Another well-known player is former Goalkeeper, Kabir Toufik. Kabir started playing football at the age of 5 and joined SUFC at the age of 16. He has represented the Karnataka State U-16 team in the year 2011-12 and the U-19 team in the year 2013-14. He was scouted while playing a tournament in Bangalore and has come a long way since then. While he was with SUFC, Kabir has been given the ‘Best Goalkeeper’ award in three of the major tournaments he has participated in with the Club and has even been selected to be a part of the BDFA XI First Team and the Karnataka Santosh Trophy Team. He was even called up for trials for the Under 22 National Team. He was then scouted from South United and went on to play with I League Team, Chennai City FC, and was part of their winning team.
Another important story is that of a former midfielder at SUFC – Vignesh Gunashekhar. Vignesh was the opening goal scorer for South United in the Bangalore Super Division in its first season and an integral part of the team. He also went on to set up the second goal for the team in the same match, giving South United its first victory as well in the League. He also went on to play for ISL Team, Delhi Dynamos, and has represented Karnataka in the Santosh Trophy on more than one occasion.
These real-life stories are only the beginning of what South United has accomplished in its time in the industry and proof that there is definitely more to come.
